Akela Crane Plus

Our Akela Crane Plus 85’ is the longest arm in Chicago and the Midwest, and one of the second longest arms in the world, compared to its big brother, the Strada Crane 100’. Our Akela can be constructed to arm lengths of 45’, 58’, 72’ and 85’ reach, and some custom sizes in between. The lens height depends on the camera & remote head configuration, but can be just under 80’ with the 85’ arm, meaning you can move from almost 8 stories high to ground level (or below) in a single fluid movement. In addition, because the arm’s reach is so long, the arc of the camera move is diminished to the point of invisibility and can even be mistaken by the viewer as a strait line move. If you need a dolly move over 170 feet (twice the length of the arm - 180 degree swing ) of rough terrain, it wouldn’t be the first time the choice was made to use the Akela Crane Plus.

The Akela does not include a Remote Head or Focus System: there are many options of remote heads and focus systems available from us, or other vendors, depending on the needs of your shoot, the type of camera you are going to mount and if you are shooting Film Style (with a Focus Puller and Camera Operator) or Video Style (Camera Operator also controls the Lens’ functions). We have a Hot Head for Film Style productions, and our lightweight T-Jib Remote Head can be fitted to the Akela on Film or Video Style shoots. Our relationship with Panavision Remote Systems allows us the option of using any remote head in their inventory, including the Libra, which is a stabilized head.
